JU Live: Socialist Students’ Front (Marxist) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit demanded Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) election Monday at solidarity gatherings on the campus here.
The solidarity gatherings held at Murad Chattar adjacent to the central Shaheed Minar around 11.00 pm where the speakers demanded JUCSU polls, which has been defunct for 26 years, ensuring coexistence of all students on the campus within a short span of times.
Associate Professor Raihan Rain of Philosophy department said, ‘we did not see JUCSU body since my starting on the campus as a student. Participation of students to conduct the university should be ensured through organizing the JUCSU polls’.
Professor Nurul Islam of Geography and Environment department said, ‘JUCSU election should be organized immediately and coexistence of all students should also be ensured at the dormitories’.
Expressing grief Professor Anwarullah Bhuiyan of Philosophy department said, ‘It is clearly said in the university act that students’ participation must elect Vice-chancellor of the university but students are being ignored for 26 years last. Except for JUCSU election, others elections are being organized in regular basis’.
He also demanded ensuring the proper environment of organizing JUCSU election.
Organizing secretary of SSF (Marxist) Sudipta Dey conducted the program while General Secretary Mahathir Muhammad was in the chair.
Mahathir Muhammad urged to the students to be united on five-point demand including JUCSU polls, ensuring coexistence of students, and cancellation of attendance marks.
Associate Professor Anisa Parvin Jolly of History department, Media and Publication secretary of SSF (Marxist) Rafiquzzaman Farid, General Secretary of Jahangirnagar Cultural Alliance Shahidul Islam Pappu, and Treasurer Maruf Mozammel were present among others
