BCL greets DUCSU VP, class boycott withdrawn

DU Live: Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) today extended its congratulations to newly elected Ducsu vice-president Nurul Haque Nur, saying the VP will fulfill their hopes and aspirations.

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) President Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon, who was defeated in Monday’s polls as a heavyweight VP candidate, along with several hundred leaders and workers of the ruling Awami League’s student wing welcomed Nurul Haque at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) auditorium this afternoon.

Leaders and workers of other student bodies were also present on the occasion.

“Nurul Haque will materialize all of our hopes and aspirations. It doesn’t matter whether I was elected or not. I hope Nur will do that,” Shovon told the gathering at TSC.

He urged all to play a responsible role to keep intact the congenial atmosphere of education on the Dhaka University campus.

Nurul Haque, who was elected Dhaka University Central Students Union (Ducsu) VP from Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad (BSCASP), expressed solidarity with the BCL president.

“We are now calling off the programme of class-examinations boycott. We want to work together for the welfare of the students accepting their verdict,” Haque said.

Earlier, addressing a gathering on the campus, BCL President Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon called upon the BCL leaders and workers to work with unity to maintain the congenial atmosphere on university campus.

“We accept the verdict of the common students in the Ducsu polls and will extend our cooperation to Nurul Haque Nur to make the Ducsu effective and realize the rights of students,” he told a demonstration programme of BCL leaders and workers in front of the university’s vice-chancellor’s residence demanding reelection to Ducsu.

“The BCL has a history of sacrifice. It sacrificed in the past and will do so in the future. We’ll work together in the greater interest of the university’s congenial atmosphere and for practicing healthy student politics,” he said.

Nur, a former human resources deputy secretary of BCL Haji Mohammad Mohsin Hall unit, bagged the VP post in the Ducsu election on Monday.

DU Sanskrit Department student Prodip Chowdhury said Shovan has won hearts of all students by accepting the polls result.
